Client: Bella Hope Coffee, Victoria, Australia
Project: Large Outdoor Custom Sign

Challenges

Budget Constraints
The client envisioned a very large 3D backlit stainless steel sign covering the full width of their building façade. However, the initial proposal exceeded their available budget.

Size & Visibility Expectations
The client requested a sign that would span 4.75m × 0.95m, ensuring maximum visibility across the top of their building. Balancing size, design impact, and cost-effectiveness was a key challenge.

Design Clarification
The client wanted the logo in white against a black background, with backlit illumination. Clear mockups were required to help the client visualize how the sign would look during both day and night.

Solutions

Alternative Material Approach
Instead of stainless steel backlit letters, the design team proposed 3D acrylic letters with front illumination. This approach allowed the client to achieve the same premium look at a more budget-friendly level.

Seamless Backboard Concept
To cover the wide area, the sign was split across two backboards (approx. 2.4m each). Once installed, these would appear as a single seamless sign without visible joins.

Mockups & Design Alignment
Multiple design mockups were prepared, including scaled layouts showing the sign’s coverage on the building. This gave the client a clear picture of the final outcome and confirmed placement accuracy.

Outcome

The final solution balanced the client’s vision with their budget. The sign design aligned with Bella Hope Coffee’s branding — bold, minimal, and highly visible. The mockups provided confidence in the final look, and the client appreciated the collaborative process in tailoring the concept to fit both aesthetic and financial requirements.

Key Takeaways

  • Large-format signage projects require flexibility in material and design choices to align with budget limits.

  • Early visualization with mockups helps clients clearly understand how the sign will look in real-world settings.

  • Open communication about constraints builds trust and ensures the project moves forward smoothly.
